Wahoo Decks products DryJoist, DryJoistEZ and AridDek help to collect rainwater that would normally run right off your deck!
While you shouldn't drink harvested rainwater without sophisticated filtration systems, the water is great for watering plants and even lawns. All you need is a simple system to capture and store fallen rain and then distribute it as needed. DryJoist, DryJoistEZ and AridDek all have the ability to collect 100% of rainwater that typically would flow off of a deck. The water will then flow through the gutter system and into a rain barrel for easy collection and distribution. It's better for plants! Unlike treated municipal water, rainwater doesn't contain salts, minerals and chemicals than can harm plant roots. In fact, rainwater pushes salts away from plant roots, encouraging deeper growth and increased drought tolerance. Gardens and lawns typically need 600 gallons per 1,000 square feet. Also, the lack of minerals in the water is perfect for dishwashing, as it will leave the dishes spotless.
Several rainwater collection devices are available that affix to your existing gutters and allow you to either attach a separate container to hold the rainwater or to hook up piping to the gutter device and funnel the rainwater directly into your home for non-potable purposes.
It helps with LEED credits! Up to 2 points may be available for storm water reduction (storm water management practices), up to 2 points for water-efficient irrigation and 1 point for reducing a project's sewage generation from use of potable water by 50% or more.
