Ever heard the old saying, “Time is money”? It may be an old saying, but it still holds true, and at Wahoo Decks, we know that. That’s why we designed AridDek Aluminum Decking – for a dry under deck area – to save you time AND money!
Time and Money
Not only can AridDek save time and money, but it can also give you a dry under deck area. This area and be used for storage, or you can create another space for relaxation.
- Time Savings: Your order arrives at your door with each board custom-sized to your specifications. That saves you time and helps prevent wasted material. Moreover, the built-in fastener system requires only one screw every 24″. This means you’ll spend less time on installation time. Plus, you’ll use fewer costly fasteners than you would with most other decking systems.
- Cost Savings: AridDek’s innovative design eliminates the need for additional under-deck systems or waterproof substructures. This makes it the most cost-effective way to create a dry space beneath your deck. It can span 24″ as opposed to 16″ (typical for the most traditional decking). Therefore, the saving on the deck substructures makes AridDek even more affordable.
New Construction and Remodeling
AridDek aluminum decking is ideal for new construction or the remodeling of existing outdoor structures and provides a lifetime of low-maintenance benefits. It’s also a great choice if having a dry under deck area matters to you.
In addition to being time and cost-saving, AridDek aluminum decking creates a dry under deck living space in a single, beautiful deck system. Furthermore, each interlocking aluminum decking board has a hidden fastener system for a gapless, skid-free, single layer watertight decking surface.
Rather than expensive add-on under deck systems, time-intensive routine maintenance, or rebuilding your deck from the ground up, AridDek’s easy installation adds value and space in a single decking system.

We get calls and emails from potential customers every week. Invariably, one of them always asks this question. “Why should I use aluminum decking for my outdoor living space?”
Most people think of traditional wood products for their deck design ideas. They usually think first of pressure-treated pine or exotic hardwoods. Yet, there are other options when it comes to building a deck or replacing their current decking surface. Many of our customers have discovered the advantages of Wahoo Decks’ waterproof aluminum decks and structural deck drainage systems.
Aluminum Deck Boards: Same Conveniences Of Traditional Wood, But With Many Advantages
Unlike traditional wood or composite decking options, Ariddek aluminum deck boards interlock in a way that creates a watertight walking surface. This feature creates a dry under-deck area. That way, you can enjoy your outdoor living space, even when it is raining. Place a hammock or a swing under your deck, relax, and watch the rain. Park the lawnmower and other tools under your deck to keep them out of the elements. Or create a workspace and complete outdoor projects year-round!
But what if your deck is not elevated enough? Or what if you don’t need dry space below your deck? Fortis aluminum deck boards offer the benefits of aluminum decking without the watertight feature. Fortis has grooves on the sides of each panel that accept hidden fastener clips– just like grooved wood or composite decking materials.
What about Maintenance?
Aside from ease of installation and deck design benefits, homeowners love the fact Ariddek and Fortis aluminum deck boards are low-maintenance decking options – definitely requiring less maintenance than wood or composite decking. Aluminum decking is a lot more resistant to elements, such as water, sunlight, pests and even fire that can damage other types of decking materials, and the powder-coated aluminum finish never needs to be stained or sealed. Your aluminum deck will need to be washed periodically (depending on conditions) with mild soap and soft brush– no pressure washer required! (As a matter of fact, we recommend against the use of pressure washers or chemical cleaners, because they could potentially damage paint or cause abrasions to the surface of your deck boards.)
Ariddek and Fortis Decking Surfaces are also Excellent for Marine Applications
Our marine-grade aluminum decking is not susceptible to the same warping, rotting, splitting and fading problems that are encountered with wood and composite decking in marine environments. Ariddek is also the perfect deck surface for in upper-level sun decks, or party decks, on boat docks. Ariddek creates an attractive and low-maintenance upper deck for your dock that will also protect and channel rain away from boats, personal watercraft, and outdoor furniture.
Some of our biggest fans are actually the smallest. Kids and pets love aluminum deck surfaces! Aluminum decks stay cooler to the touch than wood or composite decking when exposed to extreme temperatures because aluminum decking reflects and dissipates heat much better than more dense wood and composite decking materials.
With aluminum decking materials from Wahoo Decks, regular maintenance expense is a thing of the past. Aluminum decking materials never rot, chip, warp, or splinter; unlike these wooden deck planks that have buckled due to exposure to moisture and heat.

One question that may pop into your mind about safety as winter rolls in is how snow affects your aluminum deck safety.
If you live in colder areas where snow can build up, the safety of your aluminum deck can be something of a concern. Even areas that don’t typically see a lot of snowfall are being pummeled lately, so folks who haven’t had to worry about ice and snow in the past are now concerned with building decking surfaces that will be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
Wahoo aluminum decks and decking surfaces are not only durable and water resistant; they are also extremely versatile and engineered to withstand even the harshest weather conditions. This gives you peace of mind regarding aluminum deck safety and enjoying the winter weather while you anticipate Spring time.
Here are a few things you can do to ensure the safety of your aluminum deck under snow loads.
1. Build a structurally sound deck to begin with!
If you are building a deck it is crucial that you follow all building codes. Products by Wahoo Decks, such as DryJoistEZ structural deck drainage system, comply with all current International Building Codes. Wahoo Decks also offers assistance with the engineering of building decks by providing 3rd party engineering reports for load span capabilities. Just by knowing the limitations of the decking material you are using can make the difference between having a structurally sound deck or an unstable one. 2. Seasonal Inspections
Inspecting your deck will help you catch any red flags before they turn into a problem. It is important to inspect before winter so that you can help to prevent accidents or even a collapse. Also, check your deck before beginning to use it in the spring and summer, especially if you had a heavy snowfall during your winter months. As the saying goes, “better safe than sorry!”

3. Clear excessive snow routinely
Use materials that will not scratch or otherwise harm your decking surface (especially AridDek or other Wahoo Decks aluminum deck boards), such as, plastic shovels, push brooms, and warm water. Clearing your deck in the winter months will help prevent harm from snow and ice; it will also keep your deck looking great for spring.
Aluminum deck safety is a top priority when it comes to manufacturing Wahoo Decks aluminum decking products such as AridDek, DryJoist, DryJoistEZ, and Wahoo Rail.
